7DAYS

I am having arguments with my old man about our dogs and their sleeping arrangements, so I decided to write to 7DAYS to see what people say.

At the moment the dogs sleep outside all through the night and are let back into the house in the morning at 6am or 7am when we get up to go to work. The maid has them inside for most of the day, except for when she puts them out every so often for 30 minutes so they can do there business. I argue that they should sleep inside as it is very hot outside.

I wouldn’t like to spend a whole night out in the heat and don’t think the dogs should either. Also, quite often when we let them in come the morning, they are panting a lot from the heat.

  1. letter

Yet he argues that as they have stayed outside during the night the rest of the year then they should do so during the summer as well because they are used to it and

are fine.

Can someone please settle this argument and tell me whether they should be inside or if it’s ok for them to be outside during the night, even though it is roasting here in DUBAI.

“Dogs don't sweat like we do. The only way they can release heat is by panting and through the bottom of their paws. They get heat stressed very easily and should definitely not be sleeping outdoors in summer or left in cars. You dogs would be extremely uncomfortable being left out in the heat overnight and you are putting their lives at risk and this is unacceptable.”

“I feel so sorry for you and your dogs, what your OLD MAN is doing is basically animal cruelty at it's very worst. Change the locks, bring the dogs in and kick him out and see how he likes it. I hope your neighbours are reading the comments and your plea and have the guts to report your OLD MAN to the police.”

“OMG! Thats terrible! You cannot keep your pets out in this heat. Clearly your husband is not too happy about them.. Ask him to spend a night and then let you know how "comfortable" it is?!?

Please before you lose your pets, take care of them like you would of your baby!!! Cause you wont find anything as loyal and friendly like your own pet.

P.S ask yourhusband to read all these comments, you have obviously won this arguement!”

“Are they desert dogs? Do they come from this climate? If not, if they are large dogs or have a thick coat they need to be inside or one day you'll get up to find they've died of heat exhaustion. The rest of the year is fine for animals, summer isn't. Stick to your guns and save your dogs!”

“This surely is not a serious inquiry! Anyone in their right mind knows that it is far too hot for humans or domestic animals to be outside in this heat, day or night! If you can't win this argument, how about giving your animals to someone who will care for them in the manner in which they are entitled to be kept ~ in a safe and comfortable, INSIDE environment during the hot Dubai summer!! I agree with the other posts. Put your "old man" outside. He deserves it.”

“I think you already answered your own question. Stick your old man outside over night and see how he likes it? No, dogs should not be left outside in this heat and humidity at night. Bring them inside.”

“It is NOT AT ALL OK FOR DOGS TO BE OUTSIDE AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why do you guys have dogs , if you don't want them living with you ??? Please Please please stand your ground and bring them inside . They'll die otherwise ...and Iam sure they are suffering so so much and you don't want that negative vibe around your home ! Let them inside and take care of them well and then see in the joy in their faces and Iam sure it'll bring so much joy to your family too .”
