Member of sexual assault gang hunted in two emirates

A man being hunted by Sharjah Police because he was believed to have been part of a gang who raped a woman, was found in the custody of Dubai Police where he was held facing a similar charge.

The man, who is from Afghanistan, was held in Dubai on suspicion of raping a woman and making her pregnant.

Sharjah Police said he was also part of a gang who raped a woman. The woman had told Sharjah officers that two men pretending to be police officers stopped her and dragged her into their car. They then drove her to a place that she did not know. She said a group of men then took it in turns to rape her on a deserted road.

A team of officers from the criminal investigation department in Sharjah were assigned to find out who the criminals were and through their investigations, three men from Afghanistan were found to be behind the Sharjah attack.

One of the men was found in custody in Dubai and the other two are still at large. It is believed they fled the country immediately after committing the crime.
