Ex-wife launches domestic violence lawsuit

A woman is demanding Dhs1.5 million in compensation from her ex-husband, claiming he regularly beat her up while they were married.

“He was always beating me up,” the Emirati woman told Abu Dhabi Court of First Instance.

“He gave me a blank cheque and told me not to report the matter to the police.”

She said she divorced him because she could no longer live with the violence.

Her ex-husband, who is also Emirati, denied her claims. He told the judge that his ex-wife was lying and that he had already been acquitted of 17 charges brought by the woman at the family court.

The case was adjourned until July 27.
