Du reveals details of mobile registration drive
Customers will receive a text encouraging them to attend one of 250 locations to register their number.
UAE telecom firm du is promising customers a ‘simple, hassle-free process’ as it prepares to invite them to register their mobile SIM cards in-line with new rules brought in by the UAE’s telecoms watchdog.
The firm has said that its customers will be notified by text message when it is appropriate for them to visit one of 250 locations du says will be able to register their number, as required by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) under its new ‘My Number, My Identity’ campaign.
Farid Faraidooni, chief commercial officer at du, called the registration drive a “highly commendable” regulatory step, and said it fully supported the TRA campaign.
“We are working proactively with agencies to automate the process, further simplifying the registration process. We have taken every measure to make the registration process for SIM cards as simple as possible for our customers, so that they can enjoy a smooth, hassle-free registration no matter where they are in the UAE.”
Faraidooni added: “I would like to encourage all our customers to register in accordance to the schedule set for them, which will be communicated via SMS, to avoid any inconvenience of disconnection.”
The firm has also revealed the documents that will be required to register. UAE citizens can do so with a UAE national ID card or passport. Citizens from neighbouring Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries can do so with a UAE ID card, a GCC national ID card or a GCC passport. Non UAE or GCC citizens will need a UAE ID card, or a valid foreign passport and valid UAE visa or residency.
Du says complete details of the registration process can be found online at: www.du.ae/newregistration.
